At Egypt Petrochemical Company (EPC), we successfully executed a full-scale Firefighting and Fire Alarm System installation designed to meet the demanding safety requirements of petrochemical operations. The project included the engineering, supply, installation, and commissioning of an integrated protection system covering all facility zones. Our work focused on ensuring rapid fire detection, efficient suppression, and centralized monitoring across high-risk and operational areas.
The firefighting infrastructure was built using a combination of heavy-duty HDPE and carbon steel piping, totaling over 12,000 meters in length. Four foam bladder tanks with capacities ranging from 300 to 700 GPM were installed to provide reliable foam-based firefighting capabilities. In addition, 1,350 sprinklers and spray nozzles were distributed strategically throughout the facility, supported by 20 deluge valves installed to protect high-hazard areas. To further enhance safety in critical electrical and transformer rooms, a total of 380 CO₂ suppression systems were commissioned to provide fast-response clean agent extinguishing.
The fire alarm and detection network was built around a central Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP) equipped with 4 loops, a graphical user interface (GUI), and server connectivity for remote monitoring and system control. Detection coverage included 102 triple IR flame detectors for rapid flame recognition, 45 gas detectors for hazardous leak detection, and 3000 meters of linear heat detection cable connected through six controllers. In addition to these, 350 smoke detectors, 355 point-type heat detectors, and 175 monitor modules were installed to ensure full-area coverage across all operational zones. More than 10,000 meters of 2×2.5 mm fire-resistant cabling were used to interconnect and secure all system components with uninterrupted operation even under extreme conditions.
Through this project, EPC now benefits from a fully integrated fire protection solution capable of early detection, fast suppression, and 24/7 centralized control. The system significantly enhances operational safety, minimizes downtime risk, and aligns with international fire protection standards for the petrochemical industry.
